Font Design |Spring 2023

Arcana is a serif typeface designed for display use, with a focus on tarot card titles. Drawing inspiration from the historical type source, Romano, this typeface revives the old-style charm and high contrast of the original. Also, it introduces modern elements through the use of defined shapes.

The name "Arcana" is derived from the type of cards found in tarot decks, particularly the Major Arcana cards, which are renowned for their recognition and impact. Additionally, "Arcana" carries the connotation of secrets and mysteries.

The typeface's iconic feature lies in the contrast between thin and thick strokes, complemented by sharp serifs. While preserving the letterform shapes of the original Romano, Arcana achieves a sleeker and more refined appearance.
