Learnt
In the project, as a UI and sound designer, I created both visual and audio elements and added them to the game. Together, these small elements make this mini-game cohesive and integrated. Communicating with programmers to walk through the entire gameplay enabled me to have a clear understanding of how a game wireframe is developed.
As a producer, one of the most helpful things is to control the project scope and test/plan everything ahead. Since it is only a one-week project, our team has a very limited amount of time; we need to control our concept scope so everyone can finish their part in this short time. Additionally, it is our programmer’s first time implementing the Vive tracker into the game, so we need a backup if the new technology won’t work. Thus, we decided to do something simple but interesting. During the brainstorming phase, as we had the idea of using a Vive tracker to track the direction of our broom controller, programmers quickly prototyped a demo on position tracking. At the same time, we kept the typical keyboard control as a backup. Although problems and bugs frequently happen during the design phase, for the final output, the Vive tracker works successfully with the simple game mechanism.
